Founded 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba. Cuban operations nationalized 1960; production moved to Puerto Rico (Cataño facility opened 1958, expanded after 1960). Largest privately-held spirits company in the world. Famous for the iconic bat logo (chosen because bats lived in the original Cuban distillery and were considered a sign of good luck).
