Founded 1793 in a 15th-century Dominican monastery building (the Black Friars). Oldest working gin distillery in England. 'Plymouth Gin' was the only protected geographic gin name (alongside London Dry style designation) until the protection lapsed in 2014 — it's now a style designation rather than a regulated GI. Slightly sweeter and earthier than London Dry due to root-heavy botanical bill.
