Founded 1982 by Jörg Rupf — the first American craft distillery of the modern era and a foundational influence on every U.S. distillery that came after. Pioneered American eau de vie (raspberry, kirsch, pear), American single malt whiskey (1996, before the category had a name), and the contemporary American gin movement (Terroir, Botanivore, Dry Rye). Master Distiller Lance Winters has run production since 1996. Operates from a converted Naval hangar with 65k sq ft of distillation, aging, and tasting space.
