Founded 1923 by Shinjiro Torii — Japan's first whisky distillery. Located at the Yamazaki gorge between Osaka and Kyoto, the meeting point of three rivers (legendary water source). Multi-still architecture (different shapes/sizes) allows for diverse malt profiles bottled together as Yamazaki single malt. Mizunara oak — a uniquely Japanese cask wood — was pioneered here for whisky maturation post-WWII when European/American oak became unavailable.
